Swappers

Project Overview
H&M challenged us to explore how digital design could reduce the environmental impact of the use phase of clothing — a stage responsible for ~20% of total emissions.
Challange
How can we encourage sustainable behavior among young, style-conscious consumers without compromising the joy of fashion?
Research & Insights
We conducted interviews with five women in their 20s who shop frequently for style and novelty. While they supported second-hand fashion in theory, they found in-store options too disorganized and time-consuming.
They preferred online platforms for their filtering and ease of use. Clothing swaps intrigued them, but none had tried it—largely due to friction, lack of access, and trust.
Key insight
They won’t stop shopping — but they might start swapping.
Solution
We designed Swappers, a peer-to-peer clothes swapping platform that makes sustainable choices feel fresh, stylish, and effortless.
Key Features:
Swipe-based discovery: Familiar, intuitive UX
Geo-based filtering: Find swaps nearby
In-app chat: Build trust and coordinate meetups
Personal profiles: Light social layer for safety & context
Outcome
Swappers repositions second-hand fashion as a fun, easy, and eco-conscious behavior. By reducing friction and elevating the experience, we made circular fashion more accessible to everyday shoppers.
